In April and May, I had the opportunity to photograph Lance for his senior portraits.  His family are returning clients as I photographed his older brother, Ryan, for his senior portraits last year.  Each son has his own unique style.  Ryan is an athlete and interested in science and engineering.  Lance is a musician and has a comedic side.  Their youngest brother, Blake, has a few years before he’s a senior but I’m sure we’ll see him for his senior portraits when the time arrives.  I’ve really enjoyed photographing both of John and Michelle’s boys these past two years.  I had fun at each of their sessions and I think we created some portraits that reflect each of their son’s personalities.

Andrew had his senior portrait session with us in late April 2013.  His parents are returning clients to the studio.  I photographed their older son, Aaron, for his senior portraits back in 2007.  It always makes me so happy to have returning clients who love my work come back to have us create beautiful portraits for them.

We started out in the studio and then headed out all over town to some fun urban locations.  Andrew was a great sport and his mom, Gloria, was the world’s best reflector holder!  Thanks so much for your patience with the late April wind too!

On Sunday, I had the opportunity to have Hannah Martin, a senior at Homestead High School, over for a senior portrait session.  It looked like it was going to rain that afternoon, so we rearranged our schedule and headed out to do the outdoor portion of her session first.  I’m glad we changed the order of her session around, because as soon as we finished running all over town and were wrapping up over at Lakeside Rose Gardens, it started to sprinkle.  I had a few raindrops caught in mid-air in the last few of Hannah’s senior portraits, but we escaped just in time to head back to my studio to finish up.

Pam and Chris had such a beautiful wedding day at Pokagon State Park’s Potawatomi Inn.  The day didn’t start out beautiful with a thunderstorm and even hail, but with patience, the storm cleared and we were able to get some great family and friends portraits outdoors after all.  Pam stayed at the historic side of the Potawatomi Inn the night before the wedding.  Thanks to the rain, she had a bit more time to get ready and relax before the ceremony with her sister, Vicki, helping her with her dress and final details.  Pam’s jewelry also included a beautiful hand made bracelet made to match her earrings and necklace.

Pam and Chris opted to see each other before the ceremony, which proved to be a challenging task at the inn with another wedding occurring the same day and plenty of guests that weekend.  However, we found a side hallway that was fairly isolated within the inn and we positioned Chris so Pam could enter the hallway behind him.  The smile on his face before he even saw her for the first time was enough to light up the entire day.  It was so beautiful to see two people so in love have such a special moment to themselves before the day’s festivities started.

The wedding was an intimate ceremony with just a few dozen guests in the Snowflake Room of the inn.  Pam and her sister Vicki decorated the room with rustic accents including tree bark, burlap, and dried flowers with a theme that also included owls and mums for a beautiful fall theme.  A small string of pearls from Pam and Vicki’s mother accented the bride’s cream bouquet that was also accented with some soft feathers in neutral colors.

The ceremony itself featured vows written by Pam and Chris that were so full of emotion and commitment.  During the ceremony, Pam’s long time friend, Michael, sang a song for the couple.  The small room inside the inn provided a great intimate setting for the wedding with all of the guests’ chairs turned toward the center to watch the ceremony.

With a little bit of dancing and a whole lot of socializing, everyone had a great time and the weather turned out just fine after all.  Pam and Chris ordered a different cake for each table and then encouraged the guests to move from table to table to find the flavor of cake that they wanted.  This made for quite the social event with all of the taste testing going on.  Everyone enjoyed having several bites of different cake flavors.  At the end of the night, Pam and Chris did a wonderful video testimonial for my photography business.  What a beautiful couple that are so in love!  And such fantastic clients, too.  I wish you the very best in your new journey together.  

Brianne and Woody’s wedding is quickly approaching next month so we headed out to a few locations around Fort Wayne to do some fun engagement portraits this past Sunday.  We started out at the Wells Street bridge and then off to Headwaters Park.

Brianne and Woody also brought a lot of ideas from Pinterest to their engagement session.  I love all of the different ideas that they had.  They were up for anything as you can see from the photo of Woody jumping in the air shown below.  I think he may be just a bit excited about the wedding next month.

I love these two images of Brianne and Woody on the steps at Headwaters Park in Fort Wayne.  This was an idea that Brianne had.  I like the simple kiss pose as well as the two of them walking down the steps together with the writing on the steps.  So cute!

Unfortunately, it started to rain a bit, so we ducked under a railroad underpass to grab a few photos there.

Brianne and Woody also wanted a night portrait so we went out to grab some dinner at Jimmy John’s downtown location to wait it out until it got a bit darker outside.  Well, we headed down to the new Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial Bridge on Clinton Street with all the equipment for a “streaky light” night portrait.  I just love doing this particular type of photo so I was glad that they wanted to have this kind of portrait made.  The portrait turned out great after a few attempts.  We ended up catching an ambulance in the three second exposure which added a lot of extra red streaks due to the abundance of lights on the vehicle.  I also had a bit of a scare with a police cruiser that pulled up next to my vehicle across the street in an old abandoned lot.  I thought he was going to have my SUV towed away!  I ran back over there to plead my case and it turns out the police officer was stopping to take a photo of the bridge too!  We had a good laugh at me being freaked out about that.  I’m still glad I checked with the police officer and I hope his photo turned out well also!

This past weekend, Lauron and James had a cool and slightly rainy wedding day but the rain held out until we finished up with their outdoor location at the beautiful Lakeside Rose Gardens in Fort Wayne, Indiana.  I was so glad too because just two nights before the wedding, we had a thunderstorm here in town and it raining so hard that the rain was going SIDEWAYS!  I stood out on my porch and watched the thunderstorm and just said a silent prayer for a beautiful day for these two.  Please let the rain hold off long enough for them to have beautiful memories!  Well, I’d like to think that prayer worked in some little way.  What a beautiful day for two people that are so in love.  Normally, Indiana is quite hot and humid in August.  I know Lauron and James will always remember how “cool” their wedding day was!

The overcast skies provided soft lighting for beautiful portraits with little to no lighting set up so we were able to work fast and get everything done with fifteen minutes to spare and then we were off to the reception!
